Women's Soccer Dominates Marist, 5-0

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Five different Greyhounds scored en route to a 5-0 win over Marist in women's soccer action Friday night. Loyola opens the conference season at 1-0 and 5-3 overall while the Red Foxes fell to 0-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and 2-8 overall.
The Greyhounds first struck at 26:50 in the first half as Carolyn Kennington snagged a failed clear to breakaway from the Red Foxes defense and beat Marist's keeper Danielle Cibelli. Neither team was able to get another goal in the frist half for the 1-0 halftime score.
Loyola came out swinging in the second half, recording four goals in the half on 13 shots. The first came from Courtney Arikian, assisted by Naomi Daniels at 53:41. At nearly the 70th minute, leading goal scorer Ali Andrzejewski added to her season totals with an unassisted goal for the 3-0 Loyola lead. Less than three minutes later, Daniels gave the Greyhounds a four goal lead with an unassisted goal. The final goal was scored at 87:48 by senior captain Leigh Ann Mastrini for the 5-0 shutout.
The Greyhounds held a 26-8 advantage in shots as well as a 5-1 lead in corner kicks. Loyola keeper Kate Gilfillan stopped three shots an earned the shutout. Marist's Cibelli recorded nine saves in the loss.
Loyola travels to Siena on Sunday for the second MAAC contest this weekend. Game time is set for 1:00.
