WASHINGTON - Nichole Schiro scored her third goal of the season and became Loyola University Maryland's all-time career points leader as the Greyhounds beat American, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon in Washington, D.C.

The win improved Loyola to 3-1-2 overall and stretched the team's unbeaten streak to four, with wins in back-to-back contests.

Schiro's record-setting goal came in the 25th minute, as freshman Charlotte Miller sent a ball into the box that was tipped home by the senior to give Loyola a, 1-0, lead. The tally also gave Schiro 91 career points, passing Carolyn Kennington who held the mark at 89 since 2006.

The Greyhounds stretched their lead to 2-0 later in the first half, as senior Tessa McClenahan finished a shot from 15-yards out off a corner kick by Gigi Mangione.

The Eagles (1-6-1) responded quickly, with Michelle Montillo scoring in the 37th minute off a corner kick to cut the Loyola lead to 2-1 as the teams went to halftime.

That would be all the scoring in the contest, as the Greyhound defense held steady in the second half to maintain the one goal advantage. Keeper Didi Haracic finished with four saves in net.

The victory was the fifth-straight for Loyola over American, and gave the Greyhounds a 6-2-2 advantage in the all-time series.

Loyola teams finished a strong weekend that saw the volleyball team go 3-0, men's soccer go 1-0 and women's soccer finish 2-0.

The Greyhounds are back home on Friday, September 14, when they host La Salle at 7 p.m. at Ridley Athletic Complex.
