Position:
Assistant Coach

Stephen McKenna joined the women's soccer program as an assistant coach in April 2014. McKenna came to Loyola after serving one season as a volunteer assistant coach at Georgetown University, where he helped the Hoyas to a 16-3-2 season.

"We're excited to have Stephen join the women's soccer program here at Loyola," Meiburger said. "His strong local ties combined with international experience will prove to be an incredible asset to our program. Additionally, he is a great person with quality character who will uphold the Jesuit values."

Last year, McKenna coached with Meiburger at Georgetown. The Hoyas made their second-consecutive NCAA College Cup appearance, first with McKenna.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for three reasons," McKenna said. "First, I'm excited to be part of a program with great character and history. Loyola produces quality players at a state of the art facility. Finally, I'm excited to work with Naomi. She is an inspirational leader, and I can't wait to coach with her on a day-to-day basis."

The Northern Ireland native brings a wealth of knowledge from his club and international experience, most recently acting as the director of player development for the U9-12 MSI Academy.

Upon graduating from the University of Ulster in 2006, McKenna worked full time for the Irish Football Association. He specifically led the Centre for Excellence, Grassroots and Primary School Programs across the country, playing a vital role in coaching the Northern Ireland's International U17 girl's team in 2009.

He also spent three years working with the Soccer Academy in Northern Virginia, where he led youth teams to the USYS National League and VYSA State Cup tournaments.

McKenna holds his United States Soccer Federation "A" license.
