Maryland native Julia Gray (Owings Md./Northern High School) will join the Loyola University Maryland women’s soccer team in the spring after transferring to the school from Providence College.
Gray was a freshman defender on the Friars’ team that reached the Big East Conference Semifinals in 2017 after compiling a 10-8-2 overall record and 5-3-1 mark in league play.
“We are very excited to add a quality player and person in Julia to our squad for the spring,” said Naomi Meiburger, Loyola’s head coach. “She is a great athlete who had success not only in soccer but also track and field in her high school career. I expect her to come in and compete immediately for a defensive position, and I am excited about her future at Loyola and in the Patriot League."
She was a four-time All-Calvert County honoree from 2013-2016 during a standout career at Northern High School. Gray, who also was a distance runner at Northern, scored 28 goals and recorded 43 assists for 99 total points over her four years with the Patriots. She earned All-Southern Maryland Athletic Conference (SMAC) recognition during her final three seasons.
At Providence, she was named the school’s Female Student-Athlete of the Month in November, and she saw action in two games during the season.
Gray played club soccer for ASA Azzurri from 2015-2017.
