Women's Lax Ranked No. 23 In ILWomen Face-Off Yearbook Preseason Rankings

Taylor VanThof's 8.59 draw controls per game average ranked second in the NCAA last year
Dec. 15, 2017

BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland women’s lacrosse team has been ranked 23rd in the nation by ILWomen, as released in Inside Lacrosse’s Face-Off Yearbook Women’s Division I Rankings.

Loyola, one of two Patriot League teams ranked, will face eight teams included in the publication’s top-25 rankings throughout this season, including four teams in the top-10. The Greyhounds will host No. 9 Syracuse, No. 11 Princeton, No. 13 Virginia and No. 24 Towson, and travel to No. 5 Florida, No. 6 Penn State, No. 7 Navy, and No. 25 Johns Hopkins.

The Greyhounds return eight starters from last year’s team that posted an 11-8 overall record. Junior Hannah Powers returns after leading Loyola with 28 assists and 73 points, while junior Kristen Yanchoris will once again anchor the defense. Yanchoris led the Greyhounds with 34 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers a year ago.

Loyola also returns seniors Frankie Kamely (27g, 41pts) and Hannah Savage (10g, 13a) to the attack, while redshirt senior Katrina Geiger, junior Lindsey Ehrhardt, junior Taylor VanThof and junior Sabrina Tabasso return to the midfield. Yanchoris will headline a new defensive unit that will have to replace Amy Abdalla, Taylor O’Connell and Bailey Mathis, while junior Kady Glynn returns to goal (11.71 GAA, .470 sv%).

VanThof highlighted last season by winning 146 draw controls. That total broke Loyola’s single season record of 122, previously set by Taryn VanThof ’15, and would rank sixth on Loyola’s career charts. Her 8.59 per game average ranked second in the NCAA a year ago.

Loyola will open its 46th season of competition on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at Johns Hopkins. Its home opener is set for Wednesday, March 7, when the Greyhounds host Towson.
