Eight NCAA Tournament Teams Featured On Women's Lacrosse's 2018 Schedule
BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team will face eight of last year's NCAA Championship participants, including two of the final four teams, as part of its 17 game regular-season schedule for the 2018 season.
In addition, eight games will be played at Ridley Athletic Complex, with all four of the Greyhounds' home non-conference opponents advancing to the last year's NCAA Tournament.
Loyola will begin its 46th season of play at Charles Street-rival Johns Hopkins on Wednesday, Feb. 21, before traveling to Florida, the No. 3 seed in last year's NCAA Championships, on Sunday, Feb. 25. The Greyhounds will wrap up the three-game road trip on Saturday, March 3, when they head to NCAA semifinalist Penn State.
The Greyhounds will open the home portion of their schedule with three-straight contests against NCAA Tournament teams - Towson, Princeton and Virginia - before opening Patriot League play against Army West Point on Saturday, March 17. Loyola will make its home debut on Wednesday, March 5, against local rival Towson, before continuing the tough stretch with games against Princeton on Saturday, March 10, and Virginia on Wednesday, March 14.
Loyola will hit the road for three of its next four games, traveling to Georgetown on Wednesday, March 21 and Lehigh on Saturday, March 24, before returning home to host American on Wednesday, March 28. The Greyhounds will conclude March on the road, heading to Boston University on Saturday, March 31.
A tough week awaits the Greyhounds following its trip to Boston, as Syracuse, the sixth-seed in last year's NCAA Tournament, will visit Ridley Athletic Complex on Thursday, April 5, before a quick turnaround sends Loyola to Patriot League Champion and NCAA semifinalist Navy on Saturday, April 7.
Loyola will then host Lafayette on Saturday, April 14, before closing out its road schedule at Bucknell (Wednesday, April 18) and Colgate (Saturday, April 28).
The regular-season finale is scheduled for Saturday, April 28, when Loyola hosts Holy Cross for Senior Day.
The 2018 Patriot League Championship will be a six-team tournament with the top-two seeds receiving byes to the semifinals. The remaining higher seeds will host quarterfinal matches on Tuesday, May 1, with the tournament's top seed and regular season champion hosting the semifinals and finals on Friday, May 4, and Sunday, May 6, respectively.
