BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland junior Marlee Paton and sophomore Annie Thomas have been named Preseason All-Americans by ILWomen, as announced in the 2013 Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook. As a team, the Greyhounds were picked seventh on the Preseason Top-20 Rankings.

Paton, the 2012 BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year, garnered a spot on ILWomen’s first team after earning IWLCA All-America First Team honors a year ago. The Seaholme, Australia native is one of three juniors on the 14-person first team that represents six different schools. She joins Syracuse’s Michelle Tumolo, Alyssa Murray and Becca Block as BIG EAST honorees.

Thomas, a third-team Preseason All-American, was a first-team All-BIG EAST and second-team All-Mid-Atlantic Region selection in 2012. She is one of seven sophomores to be included among the 43 honorees on the first, second or third teams. Notre Dame’s Barb Sullivan is the only other sophomore to be honored from the BIG EAST.

Paton and Thomas teamed to lead an offense that ranked second in the BIG EAST in goals, assists and points through conference games last year. The duo also helped Loyola to its second-straight BIG EAST title in 2012, as they put up 13 goals against No. 2 ranked and top-seeded Syracuse  - the most of any team all season – in the championship game of the conference tournament. The win over the Orange was the highest ranked opponent the Greyhounds have beat under head coach Jen Adams.

Paton finished the year with 90 points, the second-best individual single-season total among any Greyhound in program history, while Thomas smashed the school’s 32-year old freshman record for assists, dishing out 31.

The Greyhounds were the second BIG EAST team picked in the preseason rankings. Syracuse was tabbed as the preseason favorite, followed by Florida, Northwestern, North Carolina and Maryland, respectively. Duke was picked sixth, while Notre Dame sits one place behind Loyola, in eighth. Georgetown came in at 13th to round out the BIG EAST schools ranked.

Loyola will open its 2013 season on Saturday, Feb. 16 when it hosts Virginia at Ridley Athletic Complex. The Cavaliers were ranked 12th in the preseason rankings.
