BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland women’s lacrosse assistant coach Dana Dobbie and All-American midfielder Marlee Paton will head to Palo Alto, Calif., this weekend for the 11th annual US Lacrosse Stars & Stripes event, held at Stanford University and nearby Burlingame High School. The tournament will be the first international women’s lacrosse event since the 2009 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women’s World Cup in Prague, Czech Republic.

Dobbie, a member of the Canadian National Team, and Paton, a member of the Australian National Team, will both compete for their respective countries. Loyola head coach Jen Adams is also a member of Team Australia, but will be unable to participate this weekend as she is being inducted into the University of Maryland Hall of Fame Friday evening.

This year’s Stars & Stripes event began Wednesday and will feature four international teams – the United States, Australia, Canada, England and Japan – in addition to Cal, Stanford and Rikkyo (Japan).

Dobbie and Paton will face off on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET and again Sunday at 11 a.m. The first meeting will be played at Burlingame High School with Sunday’s contest played at Stanford.

Paton will then play in the marquee event on Sunday as the United States and Australia face off in a rematch of the 2009 World Cup championship game. The Americans held on for an 8-7 win in 2009, reclaiming the gold that they’d lost in 2005, when the Australians prevailed 14-7 in the title match. Sunday’s rematch will be broadcast on ESPN3.com at 1 p.m. ET.

While Dobbie and Paton are playing out in California, the Greyhounds will host defending NCAA Champions Northwestern on Saturday at Ridley Athletic Complex in its second fall ball game. Opening draw is slated for 2:30 p.m.
