May 2, 2016

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team placed seven Greyhounds on the All-Patriot League Teams, while senior Maddy Lesher was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, freshman Hannah Powers earned Patriot League Rookie of the Year honors and head coach Jen Adams was named the Patriot League Coach of the Year, as announced by the League office Monday.

Lesher becomes the first player in League history to earn three-straight Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year honors, while Powers becomes Loyola's first-ever Patriot League Rookie of the Year and Adams picks up her second Coach of the Year accolade from the League. Senior Maddy Blakeman (attack), redshirt freshman Sabrina Tabasso (midfield), junior Bailey Mathis (defense) and senior Molly Wolf (goalkeeper) joined Lesher on the All-Patriot League First Team, while freshman Kristen Yanchoris (defense) joined Powers on the second team.

Lesher, a native of Gladywne, Pennsyavnia, became the first Greyhound to garner three major conference awards throughout their career. The program's fifth four-time all-conference honoree, Lesher leads the Patriot League and ranks fourth in the NCAA in ground balls (54) and third nationally in caused turnovers (45). With 158 ground balls throughout her four seasons, Lesher ranks seventh on Loyola's career records, while her 104 caused turnovers sits fifth in all-time program history.

Powers is the top-ranked rookie in the Patriot League in goals, assists and points this season. An attacker from Skaneateles, New York, Powers has had a point in all but one game throughout her first season and has tallied multiple goals on 10 occasions, including eight of the last nine games. She's second on the team in goals, assists and points, while she's tied for third in assists among all freshmen in the NCAA.

Adams picks up her second Patriot League Coach of the Year honor after leading Loyola to its third-straight undefeated season in Patriot League play and its third-straight Patriot League regular season title. With 25-straight wins in conference play, Loyola owns the League's record for consecutive games won, while they've also captured the last two tournament titles. In addition, on Saturday, March 19, Adams recorded her 100th career victory with an 8-2 win over Navy.

Blakeman has captained a young offensive unit this season and picks up her first career all-conference honor after leading the Greyhounds with 35 goals, 20 assists and 55 points. She's had seven four-plus point games and has been the team's top point scorer on nine occasions. In Patriot League play, the Vero Beach, Florida, native has had at least three points in every contest, including a career-high seven against Army West Point, and also leads the League in assists, with 16, and is second in points, with 37.

Mathis picked up her second-straight All-Patriot League accolade, and her first-ever first-team honor, after helping the Greyounds' defense lead the Patriot League in ground balls and caused turnovers. For the season, the Lake Worth, Florida, native has 16 ground balls, 16 draw controls and 12 caused turnovers, while she's held Bucknell's Gretchen Richter, Colgate's Haley O'Hanlon and Navy's Katie Gallagher scoreless.

Tabasso, a native of Rosemont, Pennsylvania, is a redshirt freshman coming off a season-ending injury last year. A true two-way midfielder, Tabasso leads the team with 53 draw controls, having at least four on seven occasions. She's also had at least one point in every game this season and, with 21 goals, 18 assists, 39 points, 29 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers, is among the team leaders in every stat category.

Wolf is making her first appearance on the All-Patriot League First Team after picking up second-team accolades a year ago. A versatile goalkeeper who is just as capable of making a save as she is causing a turnover, Wolf leads the Patriot League with a 6.63 goals-against average and .607 save percentage in conference only games. For the season, Wolf's 8.20 GAA ranks 26th nationally, while her .527 save percentage is sixth nationally. With 584 saves, an 8.73 goals-against average and 150 ground balls throughout her career, the Baltimore, Maryland, native will graduate as one of the program's top-ranked goalkeepers.

Yanchoris is the lone rookie defender named to an all-League team this season. Hailing from Sykesville, Maryland, Yanchoris has seamlessly stepped into a starting role this year. With 22 caused turnovers, she is the third-ranked freshman in the NCAA, while her total stands second on the program's freshman records. She's also fourth on the team with 24 ground balls.

The Greyhounds will return to play on Friday when they host the semifinals of the Patriot League Tournament at 5 p.m.
