PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Marlee Paton, a junior midfielder on the Loyola University Maryland women’s lacrosse team, has been named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, as announced Monday by the league office.

The Seaholme, Australia native led the Greyhounds to a 2-0 week on the road, including a 14-13 double-overtime win at previously undefeated Notre Dame and a 17-2 victory in the program’s first-ever meeting with Marquette. For the week, Paton had 10 points on six goals and four assists, and added eight draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers.

At No. 6 Notre Dame on Friday, Paton tallied a season – and game – high seven points, including a career-high five goals to go with two assists. She had a hand in five of Loyola’s first seven goals before drawing a face guard in the second half. She then won her career-high sixth draw control at the end of the first overtime period and ran straight to goal for the score, tying the game for an eighth time to secure the double-overtime period for Loyola.

Paton followed that up on Sunday by adding one goal and two assists in a 17-2 win at Marquette.

This marks the first weekly award for Paton this season, while it is the third of her career. She also becomes the third Greyhound this season to earn a BIG EAST weekly accolade, as Maddy Lesher and Taryn VanThof were honored as the league’s defensive player of the week on February 25 and March 25, respectively.

The Greyhounds will head to Villanova and Rutgers for conference contests this weekend. Loyola will take on the Wildcats Friday at 4 p.m., before facing the Scarlet Knights Sunday at 1 p.m.
