CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland women’s lacrosse senior All-American Marlee Paton has been named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the League office Monday. Junior Annie Thomas and redshirt junior Taryn VanThof were also included among this week’s honorable mention performances.

Paton, a native of Seaholme, Australia, played a key role in a pair of double-digit wins for the No. 14 Greyhounds last week, an 18-5 win over American on Wednesday and a 19-8 victory at Boston University on Saturday.

Against the Eagles, Paton had three ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers and put up nearly identical statistics in a win over the Terriers, finishing with three ground balls, two caused turnovers and a draw control. In addition, she helped the defense limit both opponents to just 12 shots while her help in the midfield helped create nine failed clears between the two teams.

The Preseason Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year also put up seven goals and five assists in the two games.

Paton will graduate as the first player in program history with 100 goals, 100 ground balls and 100 caused turnovers throughout their career. She’s currently ranked in the top-10 of Loyola’s program records for goals (6th – 170), assists (2nd – 92), points (4th – 262) and caused turnovers (4th – 100).

Thomas finished the week with five goals and eight assists, while VanThof had 24 draw controls in the two games, matching her own Patriot League single-game record with 15 at Boston University. VanThof also scored in each of the games to extend her goal-scoring streak to 24-straight games.

Loyola will return to action on Saturday when it hosts Navy for the Patriot League regular season title. The winner of the game will claim the regular season championship and host the conference tournament. Opening draw is slated for 1 p.m., with Loyola’s senior class – Molly Dickerson, Ali Habicht, Marlee Paton and Katherine Reinhard – being honored beforehand as part of Senior Day.
