April 9, 2012
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior Kellye Gallagher has been named the BIG EAST Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for her play in Loyola University Maryland's 17-8 win at Louisville on Thursday, April 4. In addition, sophomore Marlee Paton has been included on this week's BIG EAST Honor Roll.
Gallagher caused back-to-back turnovers on the Cardinals' first two possessions of the game to allow the Greyhounds to take a 3-0 lead and keep Louisville off the board until the 22:05 mark. The Ridley, Pa., native finished Loyola's only game of the week with four ground balls and a game-high five caused turnovers.
For the season, Gallagher leads the nation with 3.64 ground balls per game and 2.91 caused turnovers per game.
Paton was included on the honor roll after recording a career-high nine points on four goals and a personal-best five assists in the Greyhounds' win at Louisville. The midfielder from Seaholme, Australia has scored in 17-straight games, including all 10 this season.
This marks the third career weekly award for Gallagher, while it is her second of the season. She also earned the honor on March 12.
Loyola will return to action on Saturday when it concludes the non-conference portion of its schedule with a game at No. 17 Cornell. Opening draw is slated for 1 p.m.
