Wolf Tabbed Patriot League Defender Of The Week For The Third Time
April 7, 2014
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland sophomore goalkeeper Molly Wolf has been tabbed this week’s Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the League office Monday. This marks the third time this season that the Baltimore, Md., native has earned the weekly honor, while junior Annie Thomas was also included among the League's honorable mention performances.
Wolf anchored a defense that kept Colgate off the scoreboard in the second half on Saturday, en route to a 10-4 victory at Tyler’s Field. Wolf posted eight saves in the game, including six in the second half, to lead No. 14 Loyola to its seventh-straight victory.
With the win, the Greyhounds moved into sole possession of first place with a 5-0 record in league play. Loyola also became the first team to clinch a spot in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament.
For the season, Wolf has played 702 minutes and ranks third in the Patriot League with an 8.63 goals-against average, while her .460 save percentage ranks second. She also anchors a defense that has not allowed more than five goals in the last five games.
Thomas was an honorable mention performance after leading all players with five points in the win at Colgate, scoring twice and adding three assists.
The Greyhounds will return to action on Wednesday when they host American at Ridley Athletic Complex. Opening draw is scheduled for 7 p.m.
