Lesher, Powers Earn Corvias Patriot League Player Of The Week Honors

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland senior Maddy Lesher was named the Corvias Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, while freshman Hannah Powers was tabbed the rookie of the week, as announced by the League office Monday.

The duo helped Loyola to a 1-1 week, including an 11-6 road win over Colgate on Saturday.

Lesher set new career highs in ground balls and caused turnovers against the Raiders, finishing with seven of each in the victory. The Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, native also helped the defense shutout Colgate for the final 22:15 after the Raiders tied the game at 6-6.

In an 8-7 midweek loss to No. 13 Princeton, Lesher tied a then-personal-best four caused turnovers and added one ground ball. She also anchored a defense that held the Tigers well below their 11.14 goals per game, including just one second-half goal, as Loyola shutout Princeton for the final 22:15.

Powers led the Greyhounds with five goals and seven points this week. Against Princeton, the attacker from Skaneateles, New York, had a hand in three of Loyola's seven goals, while she followed that up with her second career hat trick at Colgate.

Powers leads Loyola with 34 points and 15 assists this season, while her 1.25 assists per game ranks eighth in the Patriot League. In conference only games, her 1.50 assists per game is tied for seventh, while her 3.50 points per game is tied for eighth and her 2.00 goals per game is tied for 10th.

For the season, Lesher leads the League in both caused turnovers and ground balls, while she's ranked third nationally ground balls per game (3.73) and sixth in caused turnovers (2.64) per game. In conference only games, she leads the League with 5.25 ground balls per game and 4.25 caused turnovers per contest.

This marks Powers' third rookie of the week accolade this season, while it's Lesher's second of the season and fourth of her career.



Loyola will return to action on Saturday when it hosts Holy Cross at 1 p.m.
