April 1, 2014
CENTERVILLE, Mass. - Loyola University Maryland women’s lacrosse junior Annie Thomas has been named the ECAC Division I South Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the Eastern College Athletic Conference.
Thomas, this week’s Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, totaled three goals and seven assists in leading No. 14 Loyola to a 2-0 week last week.
The Bel Air, Md., native started with two goals, an assist and two ground balls in an 8-5 win at No. 15 Georgetown on Wednesday. Her points came after being face-guarded in the first half and during the Greyhounds’ rally that turned a 5-3 deficit into a 6-5 lead. Her free-position goal to put the Greyhounds up, 6-5, at 20:50 proved to be the eventual game-winning goal.
In a 19-5 win at Holy Cross on Saturday, a game in which the Greyhounds never trailed, Thomas had a goal and six assists. Three of her assists came on the first three goals of the game, giving Loyola an early 3-0 advantage.
Thomas has had a point in 30-straight games and is second on the team in goals (23) and points (43). She also has a team-high 20 assists, moving her career total to 78 and ranking her fifth on the program’s all-time chart.
This marks the fifth career weekly award for Thomas and her first from the ECAC. She has garnered three Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week honors this year, on February 25, March 24 and March 31, and was also a WomensLax.com Rookie of the Week in 2012.
Thomas and the Greyhounds will be back in action on Saturday when they head to Colgate for a 1 p.m. contest.
