BALTIMORE - The United Women’s Lacrosse League (UWLX), the semi-professional post-collegiate women’s lacrosse league in the United States, announced Thursday that Loyola University Maryland women’s lacrosse head coach Jen Adams has been named the head coach for its Baltimore team for its inaugural season.

“I am extremely honored and excited to be a part of history with the inaugural UWLX,” Adams said. “I am deeply passionate and inspired by this sport and its growth at the post-collegiate level. To give these outstanding athletes a chance to extend their playing careers on a professional platform is something I have wished for in my lifetime.

“As a coach, I plan to bring top level players together to deliver an innovative and dynamic brand of lacrosse to the Baltimore team and lacrosse community.”

Launched by the United Women’s Sports, LLC in collaboration with the Play It Forward Sport Foundation in Boston, this female owned and operated company was formed with the primary objective of establishing women’s pro leagues for a variety of sports, thereby creating opportunities for women at all levels of professional sports. With the launch of UWLX, 100 such opportunities are being created from athletes to operations and executive management.

The League will start four teams in Baltimore, Boston, Long Island and Philadelphia this year, and all post-collegiate players are eligible to enter the Draft. General Managers and Coaches will draft players and make final team selections of 17 active and three reserve players in early May.

Dartmouth head coach Amy Patton will coach Boston, Hofstra head coach Shannon Smith will coach Long Island and Penn State head coach Missy Doherty will coach Philadelphia.

"Each of these four coaches brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience that is not only key to the development of players, but also will lay the groundwork for the success of the UWLX, " said Commissioner Michele "DJ" DeJuliis. "They share our vision of establishing a league for women to go beyond their college lacrosse careers and will be at the forefront of empowering female athletes to play forward their talents."

The inaugural 16-game schedule will kick off on May 28 during the NCAA Division I and III Championship weekend at Talen Energy Stadium, formerly PPL Park. The season will run for 10 weeks during the summer and culminate with a championship weekend on July 30.
