Paton And VanThof Included On Tewaaraton Award Watch List
Feb. 27, 2014
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Loyola University Maryland senior Marlee Paton and junior Taryn VanThof have been named to the 2014 Tewaaraton Award women’s lacrosse watch list, presented by Panama Jack and announced by The Tewaaraton Foundation Thursday night.
Paton, a two-time All-American, recently became the first player in women’s lacrosse history to reach 100 goals, 75 assists, 200 points and 100 ground balls in their career. Coming off three-straight seasons of earning All-Mid-Atlantic Region and All-BIG EAST Team honors, she was named the Patriot League Preseason Offensive Player of the Year this season, marking her third-straight preseason all-conference accolade. This is also the third-straight year that the Seaholme, Australia native has been named to the initial Tewaaraton Award watch list.
VanThof was named a third-team IWLCA All-American a year ago after leading the Greyhounds with 75 draw controls, the third most in Loyola’s single-season history. The midfielder from Livonia, N.Y., earned all-region and All-BIG EAST honors last year and was also voted the team’s Most Dedicated Player. She has notched 53 goals, 22 assists, 75 points and 118 draw controls throughout her career.
Paton and VanThof are two of three Patriot League student-athletes on the watch list, while Navy’s Loren Generi is the third. Throughout the season, the Greyhounds will face 15 of the 51 honorees.
From this preseason list, additions will be made March 20 and April 10 with 25 nominees being named on April 24. Five finalists will be announced May 8 with the Tewaaraton ceremony taking place May 29 in Washington, D.C.
Loyola will return to action on Saturday when it heads to James Madison for a 1 p.m., contest.
