Thomas And Wolf Take Women's Lacrosse Patriot League Honors

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Junior Annie Thomas and sophomore Molly Wolf have been named the Patriot League Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, as announced by the League office Tuesday.
Wolf, this season’s first defensive player of the week last week, has notched back-to-back games with double-digit saves to lead the Greyhounds to wins over two-straight nationally ranked teams. This past week, she stopped 11 shots in a 15-10 win over No. 17 Princeton, including seven in the first half, allowing Loyola to take a 7-4 advantage into halftime.
Thomas earned her first weekly honor from the Patriot League after recording a game-high five points on three goals and two assists in the win over the Tigers. Thomas’ first goal gave Loyola a 5-1 edge midway through the first halfThomas’ three goals marked the 12th hat trick of her career, while her two assists moved her into a three-way tie for eighth place on Loyola’s all-time career record book with 61 throughout her three seasons.
In addition, junior Taryn VanThof was also included on the League’s honorable mention performances after winning five draw controls, including setting Loyola up to win the first seven of the game. She also had one goal, two assists, three ground balls and two caused turnovers in the contest.
With the two wins over nationally ranked opponents to open the season, Loyola cracked into the top-five of the IWLCA Coaches Poll for the first time since 2011.
The Greyhounds will head to No. 20 Johns Hopkins tomorrow night to face their third-straight nationally ranked foe. The game will begin at 5p.m., at Homewood Field and be televised nationally by ESPNU.
