Lesher Named BIG EAST Defensive Player Of The Week
Feb. 25, 2013
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Loyola University Maryland freshman Maddy Lesher has been named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, as announced Monday by the league office.
Lesher, a defender from Gladwyne, Pa., helped the Greyhounds secure their first win of the season on Saturday, a 13-11 victory over No. 10 Penn State at Ridley Athletic Complex.
The rookie held Mackenzie Cyr, the Nittany Lions’ top scorer, without a goal in the contest and limited the visitors to just two shots in the opening 17 minutes of the second half. Throughout that time, the Greyhounds to strung together a four-goal run that gave them the lead for good midway through the second half.
Lesher finished the contest with a game-high two caused turnovers and also won one draw control.
This marks the first career award for Lesher and the first weekly honor for the Greyhounds this season.
Loyola will return to action on Wednesday when it hosts No. 14 Johns Hopkins at Ridley Athletic Complex. Opening draw is slated for 7 p.m.
