Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 8 Maryland, 14-9 in Season Finale

College Park, Md. - Maryland broke free of a 6-6 halftime score to top Loyola 14-9 in women's lacrosse action Saturday at Ludwig Field. The Greyhounds finish the 2005 season with a 5-11 record while the Terrapins improve to 12-6.
Loyola leading scorer ate McHarg started off the contest 1:16 into the contest when Rachel Shuck passed the ball off as McHarg charged the cage from the eight meter. Maryland gained the advantage on back to back goals, one from Jessica Dorney and the second off a free-position by Casey Magor for a 2-1 mark. The Greyhounds then took the lead with Kate Filippelli scoring on an assist from McHarg 15:40 into the game and McHarg recording her second goal after 18:01 of play for a 3-2 score. The squads exchanged goals for a 4-3 Loyola lead before Maryland tallied back to back goals to claim a 5-4 lead 23:37 into the game. Sydney Greene tied the game for the fifth time, 5-5 by scoring her 100th career goal for the Greyhounds at 25:46. The Terps then took the lead, 6-5 after 29:02 of play before McHarg tied the contest with her goal with just two seconds remaining in the half.
Maryland rallied in the second half, scoring the first three goals to take a 9-6 lead. Bridget Zingler gave the Greyhounds the first goal in the second half for a 9-7 score after 39:41 of play. The Terps went on another run, scoring four goals for a 13-7 score. McHarg and Maura Kenny added the final two tallies for Loyola at 43:48 and 55:14 for a 13-9 mark. Delia Cox ended the contest for the Terps with a goal at 57:05 for the 14-9 final.
McHarg led the Greyhounds with four goals and an assist. Greene added two goals while Filippelli, Zingler and Kenny each tallied one. Kenny also added an assist while Loyola's career assist lead Shuck added three.
Katie Doolittle and Kelly Kasper each had three goals while Doolittle added an assist. Dorney added two goals and three assists to round out the leaders.
