STORRS, Conn. - Sophomore Marlee Paton scored three of the Loyola University Maryland women’s lacrosse team’s final four goals to lead the 14th-ranked Greyhounds in a come-from-behind 12-9 win at Connecticut Sunday afternoon. The game marked the final regular season contest for Loyola this year, while the win was the 50th-career victory for head coach Jen Adams. The Greyhounds conclude the regular season with an 11-5 overall record and a program-best 7-1 record in BIG EAST play.

The Huskies jumped out to a 2-0 lead by the 18:37 mark before Barranco and Burke scored back-to-back goals for the Greyhounds to knot the score at two, but Loyola was unable to take the lead as UConn found the back of the net at 11:34.
The next six minutes were scoreless until Paton notched her first of the day at 5:34 to knot the score for a second time. She then assisted Annie Thomas 20 seconds later to give Loyola its first lead of the game, 4-3.
UConn scored again to tie it at four with 4:03 left to play, but Annie Thomas broke the stalemate with her second-straight goal one minute later. The Huskies would tie it for a fourth time with just 12 seconds left before halftime though, sending the two squads into the break with an even 5-5 score.
The Huskies ran off three-straight goals to open play in the second half, but four-straight from Sydney Thomas, Annie Thomas, Cahill and Paton gave Loyola a 9-8 advantage with 11:21 to go. UConn found a sixth equalizer at 10:24, but Paton scored twice and Schmitt tacked on one to close out the game on a 3-0 run for the Greyhounds, bringing the final score to 12-9.
Defensively, the Greyhounds were led by senior goalkeeper Kerry Stoothoff’s 11 saves and four ground balls, while classmate Kellye Gallagher had two ground balls and three caused turnovers. Senior Virginia Weber finished the day with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
On the draw, Sydney Thomas led the way with a personal-best six.
