Clark's Game-Winner In Overtime Helps Women's Lax Hold Off Lehigh, 14-13

BALTIMORE - The Lehigh women's lacrosse team closed out regulation by scoring five-straight goals, but junior Emily Clark netted the game winner just 1:09 into the overtime period to help the Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team hold off the Mountain Hawks, 14-13, Saturday afternoon at Ridley Athletic Complex.

Clark led eight Greyhounds in scoring with a career-high six points, recording four goals to mark her second-straight hat trick. Junior Cami Whiteford scored three goals for her career first career hat trick and freshman Hannah Powers added two goals and one assist.

Senior Maddy Blakeman had one goal and three assists for Loyola (9-5 overall, 6-0 Patriot League), while sophomores Margaret Filippelli and Hannah Savage had one goal and one assist each, and sophomore Frankie Kamely had one goal and redshirt freshman Sabrina Tabasso had one goal piece.

For Lehigh (10-3, 4-2), Allison LaBeau had a game-high seven points on six goals and one assist.

The Greyhounds gave up the first two goals of the game before rattling off three-straight scores to pull ahead 3-2 at the 19:20 mark. Savage scored first at 22:12, assisted by Blakeman, followed by a free-position goal from Tabasso and a man-down goal from Whiteford, again assisted by Blakeman.

Lehigh answered with three-consecutive goals to regain the lead and capture a two-goal advantage, 5-3, with 13:20 to play in the opening half.

Following a Loyola timeout, Clark netted a pass from Savage and then Blakeman fired a shot into the back of the net to tie the game for a third time, at 5-5, with 7:38 on the clock.

Filippelli regained the lead for the Greyhounds at 2:33 and Clark finished out the scoring in the half by netting back-to-back goals to get Loyola an 8-5 advantage at the break.

Whiteford started the second half with a pair of goals to record her first career hat trick and move Loyola's advantage to five, 10-5, with 26:55 left in the contest.

The Mountain Hawks and Greyhounds traded goals over the next 14 minutes, with Powers netting a pair of goals for Loyola and Kamely tacking on one, to move the score to 13-9.

From there, Lehigh scored four more goals to knot the score at 13-13 and force overtime.

Defensively for Loyola, senior Maddy Lesher had two caused turnovers and one ground ball.

On the draw freshman Taylor VanThof won a personal-best eight draw controls, while Clark had a career-high four, including the lone draw in overtime that secured possession for the Greyhounds.

Loyola will return to action on Wednesday when it travels to Bucknell for a 5 p.m. opening draw.
