ITHACA, N.Y. - The No. 11 Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team wrapped up its non-conference schedule with a 17-10 loss at No. 15 Cornell Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Annie Thomas led Loyola (8-4, 4-0 BIG EAST) with her fifth hat trick of the season, finishing the day with three goals and one assist, while classmate Sydney Thomas and junior Joanna Dalton each had two goals. Sophomore Marlee Paton extended her scoring streak to 18-straight games, with one goal and two assists, while freshmen Molly Hulseman and Hannah Schmitt rounded out the scoring with one goal each.

For Cornell (8-3), Caroline Salisbury led the Big Red with five goals, while Jessi Steinberg had four goals and two assists and Olivia Knotts recorded three goals and one assist.

The Big Red found the back of the net first, with a man-up goal at 28:47, but Loyola answered with three-straight scores within 40 seconds to take a 3-1 lead at 27:03. Hulseman scored the first, assisted by Paton, before Sydney Thomas tallied back-to-back goals in 11 seconds.

Cornell stormed back with a goal of its own at 26:49, before tying the game at three at the 20:11 mark.

Dalton won the ensuing draw control and dished it to Paton, who fired a shot into the top right corner to keep Loyola on top, 4-3, with 20 minutes to play in the half.

Three-unanswered goals by the Big Red gave Cornell a two-goal advantage, 6-4, with 13:16 to play. From there, Annie Thomas scattered three goals around two from the Big Red to bring Loyola within one, 8-7, at halftime.

The Big Red extended their lead back to two out of the break, before Schmitt scored her lone goal of the day at 24:30. Two-unanswered goals from Cornell gave the Big Red an 11-8 lead with 18:15 to play.

Dalton got Loyola back within two, with a goal assisted by Schmitt, at 12:05, but a string of six-straight goals for Cornell put the game out of reach for Loyola. Dalton tallied another score at 1:16, but it wouldn't be enough as the Big Red held on for a 17-10 victory.

Dalton led Loyola with a career-high eight draw controls, the most for a Greyhound since former Greyhound Meg Decker won 10 vs. Denver on March 21, 2011.

Defensively, senior Ana Heneberry caused three turnovers, while classmates Kellye Gallagher and Kerry Stoothoff, in addition to Schmitt, each caused two. Junior Ashley Moulton and Heneberry also had three ground balls, while Paton and Stoothoff had two each.

The Greyhounds will be back in action next weekend, returning to Ridley Athletic Complex for their final home games of the regular season. Loyola will host Rutgers on Friday at 7 p.m., and Villanova on Sunday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
