BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland women’s basketball team took part in the Baltimore Department of Social Welfare 2011 Holiday Project, sponsoring a local family this Christmas by purchasing and delivering gifts.

The Greyhounds sponsored a family that consisted of a single father and three young children (twin four-year old boys and a three-year old girl). The team went shopping together, purchasing new winter jackets, Toy Story light up sneakers, jeans, shirts and Toy Story themed toys along with several other items.

The student-athletes wrapped the gifts and delivered them to the family just prior to Christmas.

“It’s great to see the look on the kid’s faces when they receive the presents,” said sophomore Julie Smith. “We were grateful for the opportunity to give back, especially at a time of year when most people don’t realize how fortunate they really are.”
