Sheahin Named MAAC Player Of The Week

EDISON, N.J. - Loyola University Maryland women’s basketball senior Katie Sheahin received the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week award, after leading the Greyhounds to a, 53-47, victory over the Army Black Knights.
Sheahin recorded a season-best 25 points against the Black Knights, handing the team their second-consecutive loss, and third of the season. The senior guard also tabbed a season-best eight shots from the field, while tying her career-high, 8-8, from the charity stripe. In 39 minutes of action, Sheahin grabbed four rebounds, five assists, and one steal.
After Monday night’s game, the guard passed Jina Mosley (1995-1999) in the all-time-blocked-shots record with nine against Army, 103 total. The career-total puts Sheahin in third place, 25 blocked shots away from the second place record holder.
This season, the Brookeville, Md. native averages 15.8 points per game, while grabbing a team-high 25 steals, and 40 assists. Sheahin started 9-11 games this season, playing an average of 36 minutes per game.
In November, Sheahin was named the Preseason Player of the Year by the leagues ten coaches. The two-time Defensive Player of the Year led the MAAC in steals last season, averaging 3.4 per game and recording 102 total thefts.
The Loyola women’s basketball team will be back in action Friday, January 4, as the Greyhounds travel to Fairfield University for a 7 p.m. tip off.
