EDISON, N.J. - Senior forward Alyssa Sutherland was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women’s student-athlete of the week today. Sutherland, a mathematical sciences and secondary education/special education double major, was recognized for her achievements on and off the court this season.

Sutherland holds a 3.737 grade point average, while also leading the Student Athletic Advisory Committee and playing an integral role on the women’s basketball team.

Last week the Syracuse, N.Y., native helped the Greyhounds to a, 53-47, victory over the Army Black Knights, posting 11 points, while grabbing five boards and three steals. The Greyhound victory was the second-consecutive game the forward recorded three steals. Two days prior in a homecoming performance, Sutherland recorded three steals, four assists, and seven points against Syracuse.

This season, Sutherland has played 337 minutes, while averaging 7.5 points per game. The senior ranks second on the team in free-throws-made averaging 80 percent from the charity stripe.

Prior to the start of the women's basketball season, Sutherland was named the female recipient of Loyola's Diane Geppi-Aikens Award, an honor bestowed upon the top male and female student leaders at the school. She is also a member of Loyola's Green & Grey Society, a group of leaders who serve as liaisons between the student body and Loyola's administration, and Sutherland has received numerous academic and leadership awards throughout her time at the school.

Sutherland and the Greyhounds return to action after the holidays, as they begin conference play in Fairfield, Conn. The Stags will host Loyola Friday, January 4 for a 7 p.m. matchup.
