Sheahin, Marshall Receive Preseason MAAC Honors

EDISON, N.J. - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference named Loyola University Maryland women's basketball players Katie Sheahin and Kara Marshall to the Preseason All-MAAC Team onThursday. Sheahin was tabbed to the first team, while Marshall earned second team recognition..
Sheahin earned All-MAAC First Team honors in 2011-12, and the 5-foot-10 guard won her second consecutive Defensive Player of the Year award, recording 3.4 steals per game, 102 in total. The Brookeville, Md., native scored 453 points last season, and has totaled 1,111 career points.
The senior guard recorded a single-season record, playing an average of 37.3 minutes per game, and starting in all 30 games of the season. She led the Greyhound team 13 times in points, and 20 times in steals.
Sheahin will be eligible for preseason player of the year, along with fellow preseason All-MAAC First-Team players, Siena senior forward Lily Grenci, Iona sophomore guard Damika Martinez, Niagara junior guard Kayla Stroman, Marist junior guard Leanne Ockenden and Canisius junior forward Jamie Ruttle. The results will be announced on the 2012-13 MAAC Basketball Preseason Awards Show next Friday.
Marshall put up solid numbers ifor the Greyhounds in her rookie season. The freshman was named to the 2011-12 MAAC All-Rookie Team, scoring 329 points, the second most of any first-year player in Loyola history. She finished third on the team in scoring, and second among freshman in the MAAC with 11 points per game. She made 81-percent from the free throw line, second in the conference and ninth in the school's single season record.
The league will announce its preseason polls and player of the year awards on November 9 at 6:15 E.T. during the MAAC PreSeason Awards Show, which can be seen live on ESPN3.
