2013-2014 Women's Basketball Schedule

BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland women's basketball will open its inaugural Patriot League season at the United States Naval Academy on Thursday, January 2, the first of 17 games the Greyhounds will play in 2013-2014 against conference foes.

Four of Loyola's 11 non-conference games will be against teams that qualified for postseason play last season, including one NCAA Tournament team. Four of the non-conference games will be played at Reitz Arena.

The Greyhounds start the season off in College Park, Md., to take on the University of Maryland on Sunday, November 10. The Terrapins have qualified for 10-straight postseasons after going 26-8 last season and advancing to the NCAA Tournament Regional Semifinals last year.

"Our goal in non-conference scheduling has always been to challenge our team as well as prepare them for a rigorous conference schedule," said Head Coach Joe Logan. "Opening up at the University of Maryland will be an enormous test for our young team, but it's one that we look forward to as well."

Loyola plays its home opener on Thursday, November 14, as the Greyhounds host the University of Hartford on the newly refinished floor of Reitz Arena. The Hawks made it to the first round of the WNIT last season, qualifying for postseason play for the ninth consecutive year.

East Carolina University hosts to the Greyhounds for the first time in program history, as Loyola travels to Greenville, N.C., on Sunday, November 17. Loyola returns to host a pair of non-conference games against Howard University on Wednesday, November 20, and University of Pittsburgh on Saturday, November 23.

Four-straight road games take Loyola through the middle of December, starting with Cornell University, on Tuesday, November 26.

The Greyhounds return from Thanksgiving to take on former MAAC opponent Saint Peter's University, Sunday, December 1. There, Loyola will play against new Peacocks' head coach Patty Coyle. The Greyhounds' head coach from 1992-1998, Coyle is the second on the program's wins chart, trailing only Logan, with 100.

The final two games of the road swing will come in the Baltimore-Washington area, as the Greyhounds travel to Mount St. Mary's on Saturday, December 7, for a game that will be part of Loyola-Mount men's-women's doubleheader in Emmitsburg, Md. George Washington University will then host Loyola on Monday, December 9.

Loyola wraps up its home schedule of non-conference games against UMBC on Saturday, December 21, before winding down non-conference play on the road against local rival Towson University on Saturday, December 28. The Greyhounds begin the new year with a new era in the Patriot League. Loyola travels to Annapolis, Md., to take on the three-time defending Patriot League Champion Navy Midshipmen on Thursday, January 2.

"We are excited about our inaugural year in the Patriot League, a league full of great players and great coaches," Logan said. "There will not be an easy night when we get into Patriot League play, but that is what makes the league so exciting and ranked so high in the country. "

Less than a week after playing their first game in the new league, the Greyhounds will host two home games in the United States Military Academy on Sunday, December 5, and American University on Wednesday, December 8.

A two-game road trip to Lehigh University on Saturday, January 11, and Lafayette College on Wednesday, January 15, comes before the Greyhounds hold a two-game homestand in Reitz Arena.

Boston University and Bucknell University visit the Evergreen Campus on Sunday, January 19, and Wednesday, January 22, respectively, followed by a road game to Colgate University on Saturday, January 25. The Greyhounds then return to close the month of January at home against the College of the Holy Cross on Wednesday, January 29.

To kick off February, Army and American will host to the Greyhounds on Saturday, February 1, and Wednesday, February 5, respectively. Lehigh and Lafayette travel to Loyola for a pair of games on Saturday, February 8, and Wednesday, February 12.

Colgate travels to Reitz Arena on Sunday, February 23, before the Greyhounds record their final regular-season road game of the year at Holy Cross on Wednesday, February 26.

Loyola concludes the regular season at home, hosting Navy on Saturday, March 1.

Patriot League tournament action begins Tuesday, March 4, with first round action. The quarterfinals continue Thursday, March 6, followed by Monday, March 10's semifinal.

The League champion will be crowned before a national television audience on CBS Sports Network on Saturday, March 15. All 10 Patriot League teams will advance to tournament play with the highest seed hosting in a matchup hosting each game.
