Loyola Women’s Basketball Posts No. 9 GPA In NCAA Division I
ATLANTA - Loyola University Maryland women’s basketball’s success in the classroom was recognized Tuesday on the national scale, as the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association released its Academic Top 25 Team Honor Rolls.
The Greyhounds, who posted a combined 3.556 grade-point average during the 2015-2016 season, were ninth out of 351 NCAA Division I teams in terms of GPA.
“We are extremely excited and proud that our players hard work and effort in the classroom has been recognized nationally by the WBCA,” said head coach Joe Logan. “Our student-athletes’ success in the classroom is paramount. The academic support of our advisors and faculty at Loyola is second to none, and this achievement is a result of the collaboration of our student athletes and the extraordinary support which Loyola offers to all of our students.”
Loyola reached the Patriot League Championship Game for the first time in program history – the University joined the conference prior to the 2013-2104 season ¬– after finishing third in the League standings during the regular season.
Fourteen members of the team were named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll at the conclusion of the academic year: Alex Barazotti, Bri Betz-White, Lauren Daugherty, CaLee Gelbaugh, Maria Kilcullen, Diana Logan, Colleen Marshall, Madeline McDonald, Lisa Mirarchi, Carly Monzo, Jeneh Perry, Tori Schultz, Steph Smith, Courtney Vannoy.
Nine of those student-athletes posted GPAs of 3.5 or better, and six were at 3.8 or higher.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III; NAIA and junior/community college women’s basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2015-16 season is the 21st in which the WBCA as compiled the honor rolls.
