Krusen Earns Victory Scholarship To Play, Study In Ireland

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Nicole Krusen, the all-time leader in three-pointers in Loyola University Maryland women's basketball history, was named one of two Patriot League recipients of a Victory Scholarship from the Sports Changes Life Foundation.
Krusen, who needed just three years to graduate from Loyola with a Bachelor of Arts in business marketing, and this summer, she will complete her master's of emerging media at Loyola. She will now work on a master's degree at the National University of Ireland in Galway.
"Nicole will be an incredible ambassador for Loyola and the Patriot League," said Joe Logan, Loyola's head coach. "Having graduated from Loyola in three years and receiving her master's in her fourth year here, she values using basketball as an opportunity to further her studies and personal growth. This is a great extension of that, and we look forward to following her experiences in Ireland."
The Foundation allows student-athletes to continue their athletic and academic careers by both playing on a collegiate team and studying in a graduate program at an Irish or Northern Irish university. In addition to her studies and time on the court, Krusen will work with disadvantaged youth in community programs to help motivate and raise aspirations to continuing studies.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for Nicole, someone who has always been an extremely hard worker in the classroom and on the court," Teddi Burns, Loyola's associate athletic director and senior women's administrator, said. "The scholarship allows her to continue both of her passions, academics and basketball, and we are thrilled she will have the chance to give back to youth in a way that allows her to continue to be a great, positive role model."
On the court, Krusen became Loyola's all-time leader in 3-pointers made on Feb. 19 when she made the 151st trey of her career. She finished with 157 makes from behind the arc in 123 career games, 50 of them starts.
As a senior in 2013-2014, Krusen was named the team's Most Dedicated Player, and finished with a 6.8 point per game average. During the 2012-2013 season, she set Loyola's single-game record for threes in a game, making 7-of-11 in a Feb. 15 contest at Manhattan College.
The Patriot League entered into a partnership with the Sports Changes Life Foundation in December 2009 to facilitate opportunities for student-athletes to secure a Graduate Development International Scholarship. The partnership enables graduates from Patriot League institutions to apply for graduate school sport scholarships in a University in Ireland.
The Victory Scholarship Program assists deserving American students in obtaining a scholarship package to study at Masters level in Ireland. While studying they also continue playing their sport at all levels and work in the wider community with young people gaining valuable life experiences that will help them develop on a personal and professional level.
Sports Changes Life offers American companies, academic and sporting organizations and individuals a unique opportunity to get involved in a Graduate Development International Scholarship package. They assist in getting the very best students a scholarship package to study at masters' level in Irish universities. Companies and individuals are invited to invest in these scholarships. These graduates will be the future leaders of companies throughout the United States and will have gained valuable international life experiences that will give them a globalized perspective crucial for transatlantic business development.
