Women's Basketball Signs Two Student-Athletes to NLI's
June 24, 2013
BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland women’s basketball coach Joe Logan announced the addition of two student-athletes to the 2013-14 roster, Lauren Daugherty and Lisa Mirarchi.
“We are extremely excited to have both Lauren Daugherty and Lisa Mirarchi join our women's basketball family here at Loyola, as the two come from terrific families, high schools, and club programs,” Logan said. “Lauren and Lisa will be stars in the classroom, on the court and in the community here at Loyola, while I also appreciate the athleticism and versatility they bring to our program.”
Daugherty, a native of Florham Park, New Jersey, finished her high school career at Hanover Park High School as a two-time All-Conference and All-County player.
“Lauren is a versatile post player who can shoot the three and attack the basket off the dribble. We believe she will fit right into our system of mobile undersized post players,” Logan said.
The four-year varsity starter led the Hornets to an 81-23 record. In her senior year, Daugherty helped the team to the conference championship victory, as well as an MCT championship appearance. The 6-foot forward scored the game-winning basket, sending the Hornets to the championship game.
In her junior and senior year, Daugherty led Hanover Park in scoring and rebounding, averaging double-digits in both categories. The First Team All-Daily Record honoree left Hanover Park as the all-time leading rebounder, with more than 900 boards. Daugherty also tabbed the school record in all-time single season blocks, recording 103 stops.
Daugherty, who plans to major in Elementary and Special Education, averaged 17.5 points per game, 11.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 3.8 blocks as a senior.
Mirarchi (left) helped Villa Maria Academy to the 2013 State Semifinals after winning the District 1 Championships in Pennsylvania. The 5-foot-8 guard was no stranger to the district championship game, as the Hurricanes won the championships in three consecutive seasons after coming in second during her freshman year.
“Lisa is a tough Philadelphia guard who is a tremendous defender which can also attack the basket,” Logan said. “Our program has had some great Philadelphia guards, and we believe that Lisa will continue that tradition.”
In her senior year Mirarchi scored two points in the 79-59 victory at the Philadelphia All-Star Labor Classic, while taking the Most Valuable Player honor in the Girls Play by Play Classic at Philadelphia University. Mirarchi earned first team All-AACA honors during her upperclassman career, taking a spot on the third team All-State her junior year, and second team senior year.
The four-time basketball letter winner leaves the Hurricane program as a member the 1,000-point club.
