Brown And Mirarchi Named To All-Patriot League Teams
March 4, 2014
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland junior Nai Brown was named to the All-Patriot League Third team and freshman Lisa Mirarchi was voted to the rookie team, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Brown leads the Greyhounds in scoring with 14.6 points per game. She scored double-figures in 22 of the 26 games she played this season, and led the team in scoring 16 times.
The Newark, Del., native has scored 20-plus points six times this year, posting a career-best 28 points against Boston University on January 19. She enters the Patriot League Championships sixth in the league in points.
On December 23, 2013, Brown was named to the weekly honorable mention list, after scoring 23 points, 13 from the charity stripe against UMBC. Her 20 free throw attempts are second most in school single-game history, four shy of tying the March 4, 1990, mark set by Patty Stoffey against Saint Peter’s. Brown made 13 free throws, a career-best, good for a tie for eighth in single-game history. Stoffey holds that record, as well, with 18.
Mirarchi has been one of the conference’s top free-throw shooters this season. The Greyhounds’ starting point guard is shooting 84.5-percent from the charity stripe, and was at one time ranked seventh in the nation shooting over 90-percent.
The West Chester, Pa., native led the team in steals and assists, finishing the regular season fourth and tenth, respectively, among the Patriot League. She has scored double-digits in 11 games, recording a career-high 17 against No. 2 United States Military Academy on January 5.
With 36.0 minutes per game, Mirarchi is averaging the most playing time of any rookie Greyhound to put on the green and grey uniform. She has clocked 1,044 minutes in 29 games this season. She passed one of Loyola’s all-time greatest players, Patty Stoffey, who played 35.4 minutes a game during her freshman year from 1991-92. Mirarchi also passed current teammate, Kara Marshall, who ranks third in program history with 32.0 minutes per game as a freshman. In 2011, Marshall played 960 total minutes, earning a spot on the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Rookie team.
Loyola, which formally joined the Patriot League in July 2013, makes its first appearance in the Patriot League Championships tonight at 7 p.m., when it will plays fellow league newcomer Boston University from Case Gymnasium.
