Therien Picks Up Fifth Patriot League Rookie Honor In Last Seven Weeks
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -
Loyola University Maryland freshman Isabella Therien has been named The Rock Patriot League Rookie of the Week for a second-consecutive week and for the fifth time in the last seven weeks, as announced by the League office Monday. Sophomore Stephanie Karcz was also added to the League's honorable mention performances for the week.
Therien paced the Greyhounds with 15.5 points per game in Loyola's two-game week last week. She scored 14 points in a midweek loss at Lehigh, and added two rebounds, three steals and four assists in the contest. She then led all players with 17 points in a 58-40 win over Navy on Saturday, helping the Greyhounds hand the Midshipmen their most lopsided loss of the season.
For the season, Therien is the top-ranked rookie in the Patriot League in scoring, sitting fourth overall with a 15.1 points per game average. She's also the fifth-ranked freshman in the NCAA in scoring this season and has reached double-figures in scoring through 21 of 23 games played.
In conference only games, Therien is ranked third in the League with 15.8 points per game and 35.4 minutes played.
Karcz earned 12 points, nine rebounds, five assists, four blocks and four steals at Lehigh and then tabbed her ninth double-double (10 points, 14 rebounds) to go with six assists in the win over Navy. With 23 rebounds on the week, Karcz moved her season total to 294 and broke Loyola's all-time single season record for total rebounds set by Patty Stoffey at 185 during the 1994-95 season.
The Greyhounds will close out their regular season on Wednesday when they host Boston University at 7 p.m.
