Feb. 13, 2012
Edison, N.J. - Loyola University Maryland women's basketball senior guard Miriam McKenzie was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season and fifth time in her career, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
It is the fourth-straight week that a Greyhound has earned conference honors, with McKenzie earning two Player of the Week awards with two Rookie of the Week honors for Kara Marshall sandwiched in between.
McKenzie scored game-highs in a pair of victories over Iona and Fairfield this past weekend, helping the Greyhounds move into third-place in the MAAC standings. The senior averaged 20.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals over the two game span.
McKenzie started the weekend by scoring 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season while playing all 40 minutes in a come-from-behind win against Iona.
She followed that by carrying the Greyhound offense in a win over second-place Fairfield, scoring a game-high 18 points on seven-of-12 shooting to go with six rebounds. McKenzie scored eight of her points in the final 3:20 of the contest and hit four free throws down the stretch to lead Loyola to the win.
McKenzie shot 51.9-percent from the floor and 71.4-percent from the free-throw line in the two games.
The Greyhounds take their five-game winning streak into Jersey City, N.J., on Friday night when they battle Saint Peter's College.
