CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland women’s basketball freshman Isabella Therien has been named The Rock Patriot League Rookie of the Week, as announced by the League office Monday. Sophomore Alexis Gray was also included on the League’s honorable mention performances of the week.
Therien, a forward from Marlton, New Jersey, played 32 minutes in the 65-58 win at Holy Cross and was voted the Rev. George L. O’Brien Award winner as the most valuable player of Holy Cross’ Winter Homecoming game. She finished the game with 20 points, including going 8-of-14 from the field and 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. She also contributed two assists and three steals for the Greyhounds.
Therien joins teammate Stephanie Karcz among the League’s top-10 scoring leaders, as she’s the top-ranked rookie, checking in at seventh with 14.6 points per game. She also lands in the No.2 spot in the League for free throw percentage (.827).
This rookie of the week accolade is the third time out of the last four weeks that Therien has been honored.
Gray earned Player of the Week honorable mention status after tallying a team-high 21 points to help the Greyhounds beat the Crusaders on Saturday. She went four-for-four on free throws made, including knocking down two in the final 28 seconds to secure the win, and added two assists during her 40 minutes on the court.
In the League, Gray ranks fourth for three-pointers with an average of 2.2 per game.
The Greyhounds will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to American for a 7 p.m. tipoff at Bender Arena.
