EASTON, PA - Loyola women's basketball scored a season high in points en route to a 78-51 victory over Lafayette College in the consolation round of the Leopards Holiday Tournament Tuesday evening. The Greyhounds improved to 4-6 with the victory while Lafayette remains winless at 0-8.

Loyola led by as much as 23 at the close of the first half with Ebony Toliver's second buzzer beater of the season for a 50-27 score. The Leopards committed 19 turnovers in the first half with Loyola posting 10 steals. Loyola scored 18 points off Lafayette's turnovers and 10 points off fast breaks.

The second half as much of the same with the Greyhounds attacking the Leopards at all angles. Loyola out-rebounded Lafayette 42-25, shot 46% from the field to the Leopards 37%, hit 22-for-28 from the charity stripe and accumulating 17 assists and steals overall.

All 12 players dressed for the Greyhounds scored at least three points and 11 of the 12 played over 10 minutes in the outing.

Sophomore forward Katie Scherle led Loyola in scoring with 14 points and was followed by classmate and fellow forward Lauren Troupe with 11. Jackie Valderas and Meaghan Wood rounded out the top scorers for the Greyhounds with eight a piece, a career-high for the freshman Wood. Freshman Jill Glessner led on the boards with seven and also added six points, a game-high six assists and two steals. Point-guard Krystle Harrington nabbed a total of seven steals in addition to her four points and assists.

For Lafayette, Colleen Fitzpatrick led overall with 18 points and seven boards and was followed by Kristin Doherty with 12 points, including 7-for-10 from the free throw line.

 

 

The Greyhounds will visit local opponent UMBC after the New Year on Saturday, January 3, 2004. Tip-off is set for 7:30.
