Hunter Scores Career-High 12 Points, But Women's Basketball Falls At Navy
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -
Junior Ashley Hunter led the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team with a career-high 12 points and sophomore Stephanie Karcz had a game-high 14 rebounds, but the Greyhounds lost their Patriot League opener Friday night, falling to Navy, 73-44, at Alumni Hall.
Taylor Dunham led Navy (11-1 overall, 1-0 Patriot League) with 22 points.
Loyola (2-10, 0-1) used a 9-2 run through the second half of the first quarter to erase a 14-2 deficit and pull within five, 16-11. The Midshipmen connected on a 3-pointer to close out the first quarter with a 19-11 advantage, though.
The two squads then traded points through the second quarter, leading Navy to a 37-27 halftime edge.
Loyola would be unable to pull any closer in the third quarter, as the Mids outscored the Greyhounds 15-7 to move ahead 52-34. Foul trouble then plagued Loyola in the fourth quarter, and Navy went on to win 73-44.
The Greyhounds will return home on Tuesday when they host Army West Point at 7 p.m.
