La Salle Rallies For 75-63 Win Over Women's Basketball
Dec. 19, 2008
BALTIMORE - La Salle shot 61.5-percent in the second half, 50-percent from 3-point range, and overcame a Loyola lead for a 75-63 non-conference victory on Friday night at Reitz Arena.
The Greyhounds (6-4), who led by as many as seven in the first half, went ahead four, 38-34 on a Siobhan Prior jumper with 17:37 to play second half, but La Salle would trim the lead and tie the game four times from that point.
Candice Walker hit the second of her two 3-pointers with 6:02 to play, pulling Loyola back within one, 61-60, but the Explorers (6-5) scored the game's next 10 points, seven by Ashley Gale, to take a double-digit lead.
"We did not execute well on defense in the second half," Loyola Head Coach Joe Logan said. "We have to play with more intensity on the defensive end and make sure that we are not allowing teams to get open shots."
Gale scored 11 in the second half, 17 for the game. Morgan Robertson kept the Explorers in the game during the first half, scoring 17 of their 32 points. She finished with a game-high 19 points.
Margaret Elderton added 13 and eight assists, and Jamie Walsh scored 12.
Loyola went ahead by seven in the first half when Prior hit a 3-pointer with 9:57 to play before the break. She led the team with 16 points, 12 coming before the break. Prior also recorded a career-high six assists.
Kaitlin Grant scored 13 and pulled down nine rebounds. She also had three assists and three steals.
Walker scored 12, while Ashley Alexander had 11 points and a career-high five steals.
Loyola returns to action on Sunday, December 21, when it travels to UMBC for a 2 p.m. game.
