Women's Basketball Tops Manhattan, 61-50

BALTIMORE, MD - Sophomore Lauren Troupe scored 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds in a 61-50 Loyola win over Manhattan Sunday afternoon at Reitz Arena. The Greyhounds improve to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The Lady Jaspers fall to 3-2 and 0-2 in the conference.
Loyola came out raging immediately against Manhattan, leading the entire game expect for a 2-2 at 18:15 in the second half. Krystle Harrington gave the Greyhounds their biggest lead on the second half with a layup with 5:05 remaining for a 23-10 score. Manhattan wittled that lead to five in the closing minute of the half on a layup by Michel Bernal-Silva for a 25-20 Loyola lead at the half.
Manhattan again brought the lead within reach at 17:38 in the second half with layups from Rosalee Mason and Donnette Reed. Loyola contined to work hard to keep the Lady Jaspers at bay. The Greyhounds began to see the court extremly well, dishing the ball around and finiding their open teammates in the final 10 minutes of play. The team was credited with just three assists in the first half but ended the game with 12.
Kerri-Lynn Orsini put Loyola ahead by 18, their largest lead at 4:17 with her three-pointer from Harrington at 4:17. Manhattan was given several opportunities to get within reach on free-throw shooting and two three pointers in the final minute of play but four free-throws from freshman Brittany Dunn and a one-for-two effort from Jill Glessner sealed the victory for the Greyhounds.
Manhattan's Rosalee Mason completed a double-double with game-highs in both points and rebounds with 19 and 12 respectively.
Troupe led Loyola and was followed by Harrington and Jackie Valderas both with 10 points. Orsini was solid across the board, scoring nine points, pulling down six rebounds, dishing out four assists, blocking two shots and nabbing three steals. Valderas also added four blocks and steals in Loyola's tremendous defensive effort.
The Greyhounds will travel to College Park, MD on Wed., December 10 to face the University of Maryland.play. The lady Jaspers fall to 3-2 and 0-2 in the conference.
