Final Stats

BALTIMORE - Senior Colleen Marshall scored 28 points and Bri Betz-White added 19, as the Loyola University Maryland women’s basketball team led wire-to-wire to defeat Norfolk State University, 75-67, Saturday evening in Reitz Arena.

Junior Lisa Mirarchi added 12 points, while senior Jeneh Perry had nine. Perry matched junior Lauren Daugherty with a team-best seven rebounds.

Loyola (2-2) held the Spartans scoreless for the final three minutes of the first quarter, while a 3-point field goal from Mirachi built a 10-point lead for Loyola, 23-13, heading into the second quarter.

Norfolk State (0-3) went on to outscore the Greyhounds, 22-15, in the second quarter, but a pair of treys from Mirarchi and Betz-White helped Loyola stay on top and enter halftime with a three point lead, 38-35.

Loyola came out of the locker room ready to shoot, as Marshall recorded the quarter’s first basket, a 3-point field goal only 17 seconds into the frame. Marshall’s basketball extended Loyola’s lead to six, 41-35, but the Spartans would trim the lead to one on two occasions in the third quarter.

With a 53-50 lead entering the fourth quarter, the Greyhounds stretched their advantage to 10, 66-56, on a Perry layup with 3:41 remaining in the game.

Marshall went on to secure Loyola’s win, scoring six of the team’s final nine points.

For the first time since November 14, 2014, Loyola recorded 70-plus points in a single game.

The last time Loyola led wire-to-wire was January 17, 2015, at Boston University’s Case Gym. The Greyhounds defeated the Terriers, 63-53, and led for the entire 40 minutes.

Loyola returns to Reitz Arena Monday night to host College of William & Mary at 7 p.m.
