West Hartford, Conn. - The Loyola College women's basketball team fell in its first road game of the 2005-06 season at Hartford, 59-52 at the Chase Arena Sunday afternoon. The Greyhounds fall to 0-2 on the season with the loss while the Hawks improve to 2-0.

The first half featured six lead changes and four ties as both team attacked the basket. Hartford jumped out to an early 12-7 with 15:24 left to play in the half but the Greyhounds quickly erased the deficit with a 10-2 run sparked by a lay-up by Krystle Harrington at 14:31. Katie Scherle added four points before a Hartford basket by Ikea Witt. But back to back lay-ups by Harrington and Jackie Valderas gave Loyola a 15-14 lead. Both Harrington and Valderas baskets initiated from steals by Jill Glessner. The squads exchanged baskets and the lead until jump shots by Glessner and Lauren Troupe gave the Greyhounds a 21-18 lead. The Hawks worked to tie the contest at 21 with 6:46 left to play in the half before back-to-back baskets by Harrington reclaimed Loyola's lead 25-21 at 6:03. Hartford regained the lead with a free-throw by Erica Beverly and a three-pointer by Marylynne Schaefer and held the lead to close the half at 30-26.

Early in the second half, Loyola erased the deficit and took a 34-33 lead on a basket by Brittany Dunn at 16:30. Neither team was able to get a basket for nearly two minutes until a Hartford bucket by Jenna Gale reclaimed the Hartford lead with 14:50 left to play. Gale's basket sparked an 11-0 run by the Hawks for a 44-34 lead with 11:17 on the clock. The Greyhounds responded with a run of their own with nine straight points to get within two, 44-42 with nearly nine minutes left. The Hawks built the lead back up to 47-42 and never relinquished it.

 

 

Dunn led the Greyhounds in the second consecutive game with 13 points. Harrington followed with 11 points. Glessner led the game in rebounds with 10, tying a career-high. Glessner also added six points, three assists and three steals.

Hartford was led by Witt's 15 points off the bench. She was the lone Hawk in double figures.

The Greyhounds are back in action on Tuesday, November 29 when they travel to Long Island University.
