Women's Basketball Rolls Over Fairfield, 75-53

BALTIMORE, MD - The Loyola College women's basketball team hit their first 7-of-8 shots from the floor as well as a free throw to hold a 15-6 advantage and never let it go in a 75-53 win over Fairfield Sunday afternoon at Reitz Arena. It was the final regular season game for both teams with the Greyhounds finishing at 13-14 and 9-9 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and Fairfield falling to 10-18 and 8-10.
After Loyola jumped to a 15-6 lead to start the game, Fairfield battled back and got within two, going on a 9-2 run before senior Lindsay Cobb hit a three-pointer to spark a 12 point Greyhounds scoring run for a 29-15 lead. Fairfield scored the next five points to get within nine but that was as close as the score got in the first half, with a 41-30 Loyola lead.
The Greyhounds maintained the lead for the entire second half, getting up by as much as 26 at the close of the contest.
Loyola shot an outstanding 57.9% from the field in Sunday's contest behind the efforts of guards Krystle Harrington and Cobb. The duo scored a total of 33 points by shooting 16-for-22 from the field.
Cobb led the Greyhounds with 17 points in her final appearance at Reitz Arena. She also added five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Harrington followed with 16 points, six assists, five rebounds and two steals. Forwards Katie Scherle and Lauren Troupe each added 12 points and six assists to round out the Loyola players in double-figures. Freshman Meghan Wood also added seven points and Jackie Valderas tallied six.
For Fairfield, Janelle McManus scored 14 points to lead the Stags and Katherine Rusie added 13 off the bench. Cathy Dash pulled down nine rebounds for a game-high.
Sunday's game was the last of the regular season from the Greyhounds who finish as the fifth seed in the MAAC. They will travel to the MAAC tournament next week and face the 10th seed, Rider at noon on Thursday, March 4th.
