Women's Basketball Drops Mid-Week Contest At Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. - For the first time in the month of February Loyola University Maryland women's basketball shot over 40-percent from the floor, ultimately falling to College of the Holy Cross, 59-49, from Hart Recreation Center.
Loyola (5-23 overall, 2-15 Patriot League) held Holy Cross (18-10, 10-7) to less than 60 points, after the Crusaders scored 70-plus point in their last two home contests.
After trailing by as much as 31 points, senior Nicole Krusen hit the Greyhounds' first three pointer of the contest, 51-23, with 10 minutes remaining in the second half. The shot from behind the arc sparked Loyola's offense and provided opportunities for two scoring runs to closeout the matchup.
Alex Smith tallied a lone free throw with 9:31 remaining, before Logan and Jeneh Perry combined for 12 unanswered points, 52-35. Eight of the 12 points came from inside the paint, including two free throws and one jumper.
Brisje Malone, who led the game with 18 points, provided an and-one opportunity to put the Crusaders back on the board, before Raquel Scott recorded Holy Cross' final field goal of the contest, 57-35, with 5:41 remaining.
The Greyhounds went on to score 14 of the game's final 16 points, pulling within 10 for the first time since 15 minutes into the first half.
Both teams recorded 20-plus turnovers, while Loyola held a slight advantage, 18-17, in points off the Crusaders' misfortunes.
With the help of Logan, Loyola's bench outscored Holy Cross, 29-16.
Loyola returns home on Saturday, March 1, to host the United States Naval Academy at 2 p.m. Prior to tipoff Krusen and Nneka Offodile will be recognized in a short senior day ceremony.
