WEST POINT, N.Y. - For the second time this season, Loyola University Maryland women's basketball forced the United States Military Academy into overtime, dropping a heartbreaking, 56-45, matchup from Christl Arena on Saturday.

Freshman Lauren Daugherty led the Greyhounds with a career-high 15 points, while senior Nicole Krusen chipped in 12 going 4-for-6 from behind the arc.

Loyola (5-16, 2-8 Patriot League) used two 7-0 runs during the first half to lead Army (16-5, 8-2) for the majority of the first half. The Greyhounds outshot the Black Knights from all aspects of the court; floor, three-point range and the charity stripe. Due to the success, Loyola took its largest lead of the contest, 26-16, after Jeneh Perry capped off the second 7-0 run with a pair of free-throw points.

Despite a last-second three-point field goal by the Black Knights, Loyola entered the locker room with a six-point lead, 27-21.

Army opened the second half with eight unanswered points, taking the lead for the first time in nearly 10 minutes of game action. Daugherty responded, putting Loyola back on top with a pair of charity stripe points, 29-29.

Krusen sparked offensive momentum with 3:21 remaining in the second half, connecting on her fourth shot from downtown, 42-38.  The Greyhounds went on to hold Army scoreless for the remainder of the half, using free-throw points from post players Perry and Nneka Offodile to push the game into overtime.

Offodile scored all three Greyhound points in the overtime period, but it was not enough to hold off  the Black Knights, 56-45.

Kelsey Minato, the leagues leading scorer, led the game with 18 points. Despite scoring seven of Army’s 14 overtime points, Loyola held the guard to only five points in the first half.

The Greyhounds went to the free-throw line 27 times, led by Daugherty with 13 attempts and nine makes.

The Greyhounds return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 5, when they travel to American University for a 7 p.m. matchup.
