Women's Basketball Drops Friday Matinee

Riverdale, N.Y. - Kara Marshall made four of her nine three-point field-goal attempts, while recording six steals, to score a game-high 18 points, but it was not enough to hold off Manhattan College, as Loyola University Maryland fell to the Jaspers, 62-50, in Draddy Gymnasium.
Rookie Tiffany Padgett made all three of her free attempts, tabbing a career-high 11 points against the Jaspers. Nicole Krusen knocked down ten points, connecting on two of her six three-point attempts.
The Jaspers (5-11 overall, 2-3 MAAC) held Loyola to 15 percent from the floor in the first half, while making 12 of their 26 field-goal attempts.
The Greyhounds (6-10, 1-4) came out strong in the last 20 minutes, scoring 34 of their 50 points in the second half alone. Loyola got within seven on three separate occasions, after entering the locker room, 29-16, at the half.
Only two minutes into the second half, the Greyhounds made three consecutive shots from behind the arc, as Loyola ended the run with a Marshall layup, to put the green and grey down by seven for the first time in the half.
Marshall later went on a three-point run, after making a good free throw and layup thirty seconds later. A Nai Brown layup cut the deficit to seven, with 11:14 left in regulation.
The Jaspers led by as much as 17 points after an Ashley Stec layup with 5:14 remaining. Stec led Manhattan with 14 points and five rebounds. Toni-Ann Lawrence was two boards shy of a double-double, recording 12 points and eight rebounds.
Marshall sparked a 14-4 run for Loyola, making 2 shots from downtown during those five minutes. Padgett went 3-3 during the run, making each of her layup attempts. The five-minute run was the last time the Greyhounds would get within seven in the final 20 minutes.
The Jaspers scored the final five points all at the line, going 5-8 in the final 60 seconds of action.
The Greyhounds continue their New York trip, traveling north to Loudonville. Loyola will take on the Siena Saints for a 1 p.m. matchup Sunday, January 20.
