Mark Miller an assistant for the Greyhounds since 2001, enters his fourth season with a new title, Associate Head Coach. Miller has worked in some capacity with head coach Candy Cage for 10 years.
Miller is primarily responsible for scouting and player development. In addition to those duties, he assists Cage in all other facets of coaching as well as working with Loyola's post players.
"Mark has been with me for a long time," Cage said. "We are entering our fourth year here at Loyola and have worked together for over a decade. He's an integral part of our program and his new position solidifies that fact."
Miller came to Loyola from Georgia Tech where he was responsible for scouting and game-day management duties for the Yellow Jackets. He spent three seasons at Georgia Tech under veteran head coach Agnus Berenato.
Prior to his appointment at Georgia Tech, Miller served as Head Girls' Basketball Coach at Middletown (MD) High School for a total of 11 years. Miller coached at Middletown for five seasons from 1987-91 before joining the Mount St. Mary's staff as an assistant prior to the 1991-92 season. He spent one year at the Mount before returning to Middletown as Head Girls' Coach for six more seasons, beginning with the 1992-93 campaign.
In 11 seasons at Midletown, Miller guided the Knights to 237 wins, two state titles and six regional titles.
During his first term at the school, Middletown posted a five-year record of 101-24, capturing the Maryland AA State Championship in 1989. In 1990, the Knights went 25-1 and were the state runner-up.
Following the 1991 season, Miller joined the Mount St. Mary's staff, where he worked closely with Cage. At the Mount, Miller was responsible for recruiting and working with the team's post players.
Miller returned to Middletown prior to the 1992-93 season and guided the Knights to a 136-17 record over the next six years. In 1993, Miller coached Middletown to another state championship, and his team earned two more berths in the state title game, finishing second in both 1994 and 1998.
During his 11-year stint at Middletown, his teams posted an impressive 237-41 record a winning percentage of better than 85 percent.
Miller, 37, earned an associate's degree in general studies from Frederick Community College in 1995 and a bachelor's degree in general studies from Shepherd College in 1997.
Miller resides in the Greater Baltimore area with his wife, Angie, son Tyler and daughter Hallie.
