Loyola Wins Men's Commissioner's Cup For 3rd Straight Year

EDISON, N.J. - Loyola University Maryland has won the Academy Bus Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's Commissioner's Cup for the third consecutive year, the conference announced.
The Cup is a measure of athletic success across the board in all men's sports.
"All credit goes to our student-athletes and coaches," Loyola Director of Athletics Joe Boylan said. "We are thrilled to win the men's cup for the third year in a row. It is very reflective of the quality of our programs.
"We are proud that these student-athletes and coaches are representing the University, the athletic department and the campus community."
Loyola won the men's race with 52 points, topping Marist and Rider, which tied for second with 50. Iona (48.5) and Fairfield (46.5) round out the top five, followed by Siena (44.5), Canisius (37), Manhattan (36), Saint Peter's (32.5) and Niagara (32).
The Commissioner's Cup is awarded annually as a symbol of overall excellence in athletics in the championship athletic events conducted within the MAAC. Each institution is scored in all championships that it fields a varsity team.
However, only the scores from the men's and women's basketball participation, plus the other top six men's and other top six women's championships are used to determine an institution's total points.
Seven of Loyola's eight male sports, excluding lacrosse, participate in the MAAC, making the victory a complete team effort from all sides of the spectrum.
Leading the way for the Greyhounds was the soccer team, which earned 14 points with their conference tournament victory. Conference tournament victories by the golf team and the swimming and diving teams accounted for 10 points apiece.
On the women's side, Loyola finished fourth with 56.5 points, led by the women's soccer team's 16 points from its regular-season and tournament victories. Marist won the women's race with 75, followed by Fairfield (66.5) and Iona (60.5). Niagara (52.5), Siena (47), Canisius (45.5), Manhattan (39), Rider (32.5) and Saint Peter's (19) completed the standings.
Marist won the overall cup with 125 points, while Fairfield, Iona, Loyola and Siena made up the rest of the top five.
