Men's Tennis Closes Regular Season With 5-2 Loss At UMBC
April 20, 2005
Baltimore, Md. - Trevor McDonough and Dan Schiemel won exciting three-set singles' matches, but it wasn't enough to give Loyola a win at UMBC on Wednesday afternoon. The Retrievers won 5-2, dropping the Greyhounds to 10-11 overall heading into this weekend's MAAC Tournament.
After UMBC captured the doubles point with 8-3, 8-2 victories at No. 1 and No. 2, McDonough won a 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 singles match at No. 1. The Retrievers went back on top, dropping Nick Bowers 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 before Schiemel evened the match with a win over Mike Keller at No. 3.
UMBC won Nos. 4-6 singles in straight sets to claim the win on their own court. Loyola, which now turns its focus to the MAAC Championships, plays Niagara this Friday at 12:30 p.m. The championship tournament will be played at the U.S. Open in Flushing, N.Y.
