FREDERICK, Md. - Former Loyola University Maryland men’s soccer player Chris Doyle will be inducted into the Frederick County Soccer Hall of Fame. He will be one of four inductees into the Hall of Fame, joining Bradley Grimes, John Horine, and Roy Sigler as the second-ever class of inductees.
The inductees will be honored during the annual Frederick County Soccer Hall of Fame Banquet on Thursday, Dec. 5, at Ceresville Mansion, starting at 6 p.m.
A four-year starter for the Greyhounds from 1992-95, Doyle was recognized as Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 1995, in addition to being an all-conference awardee in each of his four seasons. With Doyle, the Greyhounds won four-consecutive MAAC Championships, and made a second round NCAA tournament appearance in 1993, losing to eventual national champion Virginia.
The Greyhounds posted a scintillating 65-18-4 record in Doyle’s four-year career. The attacking midfielder scored 12 goals and had 17 assists in his playing days on the Evergreen campus, and was named the team’s Most Valuable Player after his junior season.
The A-League Rochester Rhinos made Doyle the fourth overall pick in the 1995 draft. Doyle is believed to be the first Frederick County male native to be drafted into a U.S. professional soccer league.
He was the first player to ever have his jersey retired at Brunswick High School in Maryland following a career that included 113 points and a state championship in 1990.
