Saramago, Vosvick Garner Patriot League Weekly Honors
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Loyola University Maryland’s Brian Saramago and Chase Vosvick were named Corvias Patriot League Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, on Monday after leading the Greyhounds to a 1-0 win Saturday that clinched the program’s first-ever Patriot League regular-season title.
Saramago scored the match’s lone goal, and Vosvick backstopped the defense to a shutout, in the victory over Lafayette College. Earlier Monday, the pair were named to the All-Patriot League First Team, and Vosvick picked up Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Year honors.
By virtue of the regular-season crown, Loyola will host the 2017 Patriot League Championships at Ridley Athletic Complex on November 10 and 12 as the top seed. The Greyhounds will play in a 5 o’clock semifinal on Friday afternoon to open the tournament.
Saramago, who earned the award for the second week in a row, tallied his team-best eighth goal of the season in the 21st minute, finishing a crossing pass from Jake Campbell to give the Greyhounds a 1-0 advantage that would hold up for the remainder of the game.
Vosvick made four saves against the Leopards, handing them their first shutout in their last five games. His shutout was the seventh clean sheet of his collegiate career.
The award was Vosvick’s fourth Rookie of the Week honor from the League this season and his sixth overall weekly award after twice picking up Goalkeeper of the Week recognition. Saramago picked up his sixth career weekly award and his second Offensive Player of the Week nod this season.
